Getting started
Quickstart
Send your first email in about ten minutes.
1. Create your account#
Sign up and confirm your email address. You cannot create API keys until it is confirmed.
2. Add and verify your domain#
Under Domains, add the domain you send from, for example yourstore.com. emitemail shows three DNS records to publish at your DNS provider. See Domains for what each one does. Click Verify once they are in place. DNS can take a few minutes, sometimes longer.
3. Create an API key#
Under API keys, create a key. It is shown once, so store it straight away as an environment variable:
export EMIT_API_KEY="emt_live_..."Never put the key in client-side code, a public repository or a chat. If it leaks, revoke it in the dashboard and create a new one.
4. Send an email#
curl -X POST https://app.emitemail.com/api/v1/emails \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $EMIT_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"from": "Your Store <orders@yourstore.com>",
"to": "customer@example.com",
"subject": "Your order is confirmed",
"html": "<p>Thanks for your order.</p>"
}'A successful request returns 202 with the message id:
{ "id": "emt_k3Xv9...", "status": "sent" }You can follow the message in Logs in the dashboard.
