Acceptable use policy
Last updated 5 October 2026. Short version: send mail your recipients expect, from a domain you control, and keep it honest.
What emitemail is for
emitemail is for transactional email: messages a person triggered or needs because of something they did or an account they hold. Order confirmations, receipts, shipping updates, password resets, one-time codes, security alerts, appointment reminders, invoices and similar.
What is not allowed
- Bulk marketing. Newsletters, promotions, cold outreach and sales campaigns. Use a marketing email service for these. (A short, relevant reminder tied to a customer's own action, such as an abandoned-cart message they asked for, is a grey area: ask us first.)
- Unsolicited email. Mail to people who have not agreed to hear from you, bought lists, scraped or guessed addresses.
- Fraud and deception. Phishing, impersonation, scams, fake invoices, forged or misleading headers, or sending as a domain you do not control.
- Harmful content. Malware, links to malware, content that is illegal, sexually exploits children, threatens or harasses people, or promotes violence or hate.
- Evading our controls. Opening many accounts to get around limits or a suspension, mailing addresses on your suppression list, or probing or attacking emitemail or its servers.
- Restricted offers where the law requires licences you do not hold, such as illegal drugs, weapons or unlicensed financial products.
Rules that keep delivery healthy
- Every recipient must have a real reason to expect the message. Keep your own record of how you got each address.
- Follow the laws that apply: Canada's CASL, the US CAN-SPAM Act, the GDPR and others. Messages that are not purely transactional need consent and a working unsubscribe.
- Send from a domain you have verified with us, with an accurate From name and a reply address you read.
- Keep bounces and spam complaints low. As a guide, we look closely at accounts with more than about 5% hard bounces or more than about 0.1% spam complaints.
- Do not retry or resend to addresses that bounced. emitemail blocks them for you automatically.
What we do about problems
We watch bounce and complaint rates and act on abuse reports. Depending on how serious it is, we may ask you to fix something, limit your sending, pause it, or close the account. Where we can we tell you first and explain why; for clear abuse we may act straight away. If you think we got it wrong, write to us and a person will look at it.
Reporting abuse
If you received mail sent through emitemail that you think breaks this policy, forward it with its full headers to abuse@emitemail.com. Full headers let us find the sender quickly.
This policy is part of the terms of service.
